Wanda Withrow Cox, age 82, of Lafayette Drive, Morehead, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017, at her home. Born August 31, 1935, at Gates, Kentucky, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Reba Sparkman Withrow. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Detta Mae Thornsbury and Shirley J. Smith; one brother, Jackie Withrow; and an infant twin brother and sister, who passed away at birth. Her husband of 56 years, Elder Owen Cox, passed away August 6, 2008. Wanda is survived by one son, Wayne (Nickie) Cox, and one daughter, Anita Hall, all of Morehead; six grandchildren, Kristi Spencer, Keri Welch, Phillip Cox, Ryan Cox, Colby Cox, and Caleb Cox; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Other survivors include two brothers, Earnest (Ruth) Withrow of Avilla, Indiana, and Donnie (Millie) Withrow of Olive Hill; three sisters, Jean (Ray) Bailey, Patricia Bowling and her late husband Jimmy, and Janet (Garry) Glover, all of Morehead; many dear nieces and nephews, including special niece, Tish Cottrell; and numerous friends. Wanda was a people person who loved her family, was a loyal friend and a dedicated employee. Early in her career, she was employed by Case Sewing Factory in Olive Hill and later Cowden Mfg. in Morehead. For more than 17 years, she was a purchasing agent at Morehead State University. Wanda retired at age 73 as Deputy Rowan County Clerk after serving 18 years. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always enjoyed family get-togethers and traveling with family and friends. She especially enjoyed U.K. basketball and horse shows. Wanda's friendly, helpful, and fun-loving personality will always be remembered. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Andy Lands and brother-in-law Ray Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Christian Cemetery. Pallbearers: Phillip Cox, Ryan Cox, Kris Welch, Justin Spencer, Darold Bailey, and Jay Cottrell. Honorary pallbearers: Caleb Cox, Colby Cox, Corey Robinson, David Bowling, Jeremy Withrow, and Garry Glover.
