Obituary

Wanda Holbrook Conn, age 75, of Lakeview Heights, Morehead, wife of Raymond Conn, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born March 3, 1943, in Elliottville, Wanda was the only child of Curt and Feril Cox Holbrook. She grew up at Stark in Elliott County and was valedictorian of her graduation class in Sandy Hook. At age 17, Wanda entered Morehead State College and earned her bachelor's degree with high distinction, received a master's degree, and was selected as a member of the honor society, Delta Kappa Gamma. Wanda came from a family of teachers and always had a special love for children. Her career spanned 30 years in Rowan County. At Tilden Hogge, she taught first grade for 30 years and in addition served as the head teacher ten years prior to her retirement. She loved teaching and was recognized for her excellence by other teachers, students, and the community. Wanda and her husband Raymond attended college together, were married during college on December 22, 1961, and received undergraduate degrees at the same time. Their careers were also intertwined. Raymond taught in Rowan County and he and Wanda retired from teaching the same year. They still own their first car, a 1962 Corvette, which they drove to work and on vacations. Wanda had a lifelong love for horses and she and Raymond owned "Master's Conn Artist," a show horse for years. Getting away to their farm several times a month was always a priority for Wanda and Raymond. Never spending a night apart during their 57 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling and celebrating special occasions with Jim and Brenda Wells, Deloris and Waverly Jones, Ted and Ginny Pass, and Albert and Dottie Ison. In addition to her husband and their Calico Cat Pippi, Wanda is survived by two nieces, Renee Ansley and Dawn Barbeau; two great nephews, Timmy and Mathew Barbeau; many wonderful cousins, special friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister-in-law, Sue Workman. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Byron Hargett, Ted Pass, Albert Ison, Randy Cornett, Curt Cundiff, and Gary Trent. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. View memorial tribute or sign guestbook at www.northcuttandson.com
