Vonnie Hunt
Polley
Jul 8, 1949 — Sep 26, 2023
Vonnie Hunt Polley passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023, in Morehead, after a long illness. She was surrounded by the love of her family and will be deeply missed.
Harriett LaVonne Hunt was born at Hayswood Hospital in Maysville on July 8, 1949, to Betty & Harold Hunt, Sr., and was always known as Vonnie by family and friends. She grew up in Maysville and graduated from Maysville High School in 1967. Music was a huge part of her life, and while growing up she sang in many churches in the area as part of the Hunt Sisters trio. She also played flute in the Maysville High School Band, and later joined the alumni and community bands in Maysville, as well as singing in several church choirs over the years.
After high school, Vonnie attended Morehead State University, and then joined the workforce while raising a family through a number of job-related moves across several states. She worked in a number of administrative positions during her career, including at Wald Manufacturing in Maysville, and for Micafil Inc in Ohio. While living in Missouri, Vonnie worked as a Welcome Wagon hostess and loved meeting newcomers to the community; having experienced many moves herself, she knew how valuable it could be to receive a friendly welcome to a new town. After moving back to Kentucky, she worked at Parker Tobacco in Maysville, and later retired from a role in the state Inspector General's office in Louisville.
While living in Ohio, Vonnie returned to college, and was proud to have completed her Associate's degree in Business at Clark State College. To achieve this goal, she attended classes on evenings and weekends, while working full time and raising her younger children as a single parent. Friends and family will miss her spunkiness, spirit and courage.
Her life is celebrated by her children, Tricia (Kellye) Culberth of Murphy, Texas; Brian (Kathy) Polley of Morehead, and Mandy (Dave) Brajuha of Lexington. She is survived by her grandchildren, MacKenzie, Jameson, Christian, Luca, Ellie, Riley, Murphy, Justin, Dylan and Madison, and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Carol Myers of Shelbyville, Patti Earehart of Springfield, Ohio, and Buddy Hunt of Pensacola, Florida, their spouses and a number of treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Alexis Polley, her parents, beloved aunts and uncles and her cousin, Wilma Insko, who was like a sister to her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Life Care Center in Morehead for their love and care in Vonnie's final years. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Life Care Center Activity Fund, 933 N. Tolliver Road, Morehead KY 40351.
Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals will be caring for the family and honoring Vonnie's wishes for cremation. A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at Seddon Methodist Church in Maysville on Saturday, November 18, 2023, with visitation beginning at 10am and a service at 12pm
