Virginia Lee -Jenny- Cornett Barker, age 93, of Christian Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007, at King-s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Born June 14, 1914, in Knott County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Sam S. and Rachel Hudson Cornett. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kern Cornett, George Cornett, and James Cornett, and three sisters, Elmo Justice, May Patrick, and Minnie Newland. Her husband, Elva C. -Curley- Barker, whom she married on December 26, 1945, passed away August 2, 1991. Mrs. Barker is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Karen Barker and Jeff and Carol Barker, and one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Tom Bishop, all of Morehead, Kentucky; one brother, E. J. Cornett of Hindman, Kentucky; two sisters, Hope Mullins of Wurtland, Kentucky and Dale Lyons of Hindman, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Kim (and Mike) Tabor, Kipp (and Lisa) Barker, Paul Bishop III, Kelly Bishop, Rachel Barker, and Sara Barker; and four great-grandchildren, Reilly Barker, Ramsey McCoy, Kellen Tabor, and Madison Barker. Jenny was a graduate of Hindman Settlement School and Morehead State Teachers College. She taught at Haldeman and Morehead Grade before retiring from the Rowan County school system. For many years, she and her husband -Curley- owned and operated the Big Store Furniture. She was a member of the Morehead Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Michael Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Bishop, Mike Curtis, Ramsey McCoy, Gene Mullins, Joe Mullins, Kenny Mullins, Hercel Patrick, and Mike Tabor. Honorary pallbearers will be James E. Barker, John D. Barker, Ollie Barker, Carroll Blevins, Walter Carr, Jack Carter, Judge John Cox, Doug Doerrfeld, Don Hall, Bev McClain, Billy McClain, Scott McClain, Joey Perkins, Dr. Ken Smith, Phillip Tackett, Kenny Wheeler, and Harold White. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
