Virgil Lee Dewitt, age 87, of New Carlisle, Ohio, formerly of Morehead, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Vancrest Health Care Center in New Carlisle, Ohio.

Born August 5, 1936, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Clell Dewitt and Laura Black Dewitt Lowe.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Larry Virgil Dewitt; one brother, Dennis Dewitt; and three sisters, Bonnie Howard, Phyllis Phipps and Patty Hodge.

His wife of 59 years, Darlene Lewis Dewitt, whom he married April 30, 1955, preceded him in death on October 19, 2014.

Virgil is survived by one son, David Lee Dewitt of Tipp City, Ohio; two granddaughters, Angela Dawn Dillon and husband Robert and Jessica Lynn Maxwell and husband Jason, all of New Carlisle, Ohio; and three great grandsons, Tyler, Joseph, and Samuel.

Other survivors include one brother, Dale Dewitt and wife Gail of West Liberty; one sister, Sue Roe of Springfield, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends.

Virgil retired from Chrysler Corporation and was of the Christian faith. He liked to piddle around the house and enjoyed being outdoors, watching Westerns, and being with family. Virgil will be remembered with love and greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Brother Charles Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
