Virgaleen Karrick Short, 91, of Kannon Drive, Salt Lick, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Windsor Care Center in Mt. Sterling.
Born May 22, 1930, in Bath County, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Clara Staton Karrick. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Short; one son, Gary Short; one grandson, Christopher Stewart Short; two brothers, Lewis Karrick and Ewell Karrick; and one sister, Vertna Bogie.
She is survived by a daughter, Lana Short of Salt Lick; three grandchildren, Melody Setters (Brent) of Mt. Sterling, Holly Howard (Kevin) of Bath County, and Jeremiah Clay Blevins (Jennifer) of Winchester; eight great grandchildren, Ben Short (Bryanna), Caroline Short, Garrett Short, Conner Short, Patrick Setters, Brody Setters, Kannon Howard, and Luke Howard; one great-great grandson, Blake Carter Short; two step great grandchildren, Jade Bryant and Jacob Cray; and one step great-great grandson, Kolsen Bryant.
Other survivors include a daughter-in-law, Karen Oaks Short; a granddaughter-in-law, Joy Wilson Short, both of Mt. Sterling; as well as extended family and friends.
Virgaleen was a homemaker and was a former employee of Cowden Manufacturing and Hobart Corporation in Mt. Sterling, and Bath Manufacturing in Owingsville. She was a member of Gateway Christian Church. Virgaleen loved pets and enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and especially spending time with her family. She was a kind and giving person with a big heart and will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the Machpelah Cemetery with Bill Kilgore officiating.
At Virgaleen's request, there will be no visitation.
