Vernon Ray Walker, age 53, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead surrounded by his loving family.

Born August 24, 1970, in Flemingsburg, he is the son of Shella Ann Hawkins Walker of Hillsboro and Vernon Lee Walker, who passed away October 9, 2016.  Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his uncle, Kenneth Ray "Buck" Walker; four aunts, Virginia Hawkins, Wanda Spurlock, Celia Sue Walker, and Jonne Walker; and grandparents, Marshall and Minnie Walker and Woodrow and Mable Hawkins.

Vernon leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Shella Ann Hawkins Walker of Hillsboro; two brothers, Earl Walker of Hillsboro and Mark Walker of Flemingsburg; seven sisters, Brenda Walker of Hillsboro, Linda Gorman of Amelia, Ohio, Lisa Jones of Hillsboro, Peggy Warner of Amelia, Ohio, Elizabeth (Scott) Moore of Grange City, Cathy (Roy) Calton of Hillsboro, Tammy (Rex) Reaves of Greenville, Alabama;  his loving companion, Becky Walker of Hillsboro; Uncle Walter Hawkins of Bethel; his nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, and cousins who adored him; and his special furry animals Bo, Joe, and Buttercup, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Vernon was an awesome mechanic, son, brother, uncle, and friend who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a heart of gold and would give his shirt off his back to anyone in need and never ask for anything in return. A gifted mechanic, he enjoyed working on his and other people's cars.  He also enjoyed watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team.  Vernon's family was very blessed to have him in their lives and his family, friends, and Hillsboro community will miss him dearly.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Hutton Funeral Home with Bro. James Hickerson, Bro. Randy Hawkins, Bro. Greg Grimes and Bro. Tom Hamm officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Gallagher, Stevie Call, Jamie Walker, Wendell Walker, Robert Hopper, and Donnie Hunt.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Moore, Derrick Moore, Scott Moore, and Greg Hamilton.

Visitation for Vernon Ray Walker will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro, KY 41049.
