Vernon Gene Mabry, age 81, of Kodiak Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky after an extended illness. Born November 7, 1930, in Portsmouth, Ohio, Vernon was a son of the late Phillip McKinley and Hazel Williams Mabry. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Roberts. He is survived by one son, David Mabry and Brenda of Morehead, Kentucky; three daughters, Karen King of Sevierville, Tennessee, Pam Mabry and Harry Clark of Morehead, Kentucky, and Lorrina Mabry Blevins of Morehead, Kentucky; the mother of his children, Wilma Fay Groves Mabry of Morehead, Kentucky; 7 grandchildren, Tracy Mabry, Kevin Brown, Kristal Thompson, Chastity Ramirez, Amanda Mabry, Lori Beth Mabry and Sierra Blevins; and 7 great grandchildren. Other survivors include four brothers, Lindon Mabry of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, Dale Mabry of Morehead, Kentucky, Glen Mabry of Dayton, Ohio, and Homer Mabry of Morehead, Kentucky; four sisters, Leota Walters and Lela McGuire, both of Dayton, Ohio, Erma Jean Brickey of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Shirley Blevins of Morehead, Kentucky; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Vernon traveled throughout several states as a pipeline construction worker for 33 years and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 132. He was also a logger. Vernon loved the outdoors and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and flying. He became a licensed pilot during the early 80s and was the proud owner of three airplanes. He was a terrific storyteller and learned to dance late in life. Vernon was a board member for Kentucky Farm Bureau. He was baptized January 7, 2001, and attended Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Fouch officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Ronald Debord, Kenny Hamm, Kenny Lewis, Carl Ingle, Richard Easton, and Kevin Brown Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Friday, July 27, 2012, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
