Vernie Ellen Little Salyer, age 81, of Little Lane, Morehead, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Morgan County ARH in West Liberty.

Born May 18, 1945, in Morehead, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Little and Iva DeWitt Little. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Shelby Little and James Little; one sister, Mary Frances Parker; one grandson, Eric Littleton; one granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Littleton; one great-great-granddaughter, Sydney Kay France; and one great-grandson, Brent Michael King.

Vernie is survived by her five sons, Willie Littleton of Frenchburg, Jeffrey Littleton (Sandy) of Mount Sterling, Robert Littleton of Morehead, Joseph Littleton of Mount Sterling, and Jason Littleton of Morehead; one daughter, Vickie Bush of Morehead; 11 grandchildren, Samantha Littleton, Jessica Renee Landingham, Leonard Jeffrey Littleton, Lauren Ashley Harding, Nicholas Charles France, Kayla Dawn France, Brittany Renee Mendez-Guzman, Joseph Littleton, Jr., Christopher Littleton, Andrew Littleton, and Zacher Aaron Littleton; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Orville Little (Karlene) and Dennis Little (Grace), and one sister, Donna Faye Mauk (Frank), all of Morehead; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

While growing up, Vernie attended Johnson and Cranston schools in Rowan County. She was a devoted homemaker who raised six children and a dedicated nursing assistant who spent 25 years caring for others at St. Claire Medical Center, retiring in 1984. She usually worked the midnight shift and faithfully served those in her care.

In her spare time, Vernie enjoyed getting on Facebook, talking on the phone with family and friends, and watching Shepherd's Chapel and WLJC on television. She loved caring for her flowers and, when she was able, enjoyed fishing. One of her special joys was spending time with her little dog, Laney, who kept her company and held a special place in her heart.

Vernie will be remembered for her love of family and the many years she devoted to caring for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Harley Sexton and Brother Charlie Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in Adams-Plank Cemetery.

Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
