Obituary

Verna Wescott Stidham, age 83, of Stidham Road, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born June 2, 1931, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Lela Lykins Wescott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donny Ray Wescott and Hubert Wescott; one sister, Loretta Brittingham; and a son-in-law, Danny Hamilton. Her husband, Dorsey Stidham, passed away April 3, 1960. Mrs. Stidham is survived by one son, Dorsey Stidham, Jr. and wife Linda of Mt. Sterling; one daughter, Dorothy Hamilton of Hillsboro, two sisters, Viola Goodman of Morehead and Elizabeth Ratliff of Louisville; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Becoming a widow at a young age, Verna lovingly raised her son and daughter as a single parent while working at Cowden and being a fulltime homemaker. Later she was employed by the Eagles Nest and then was a seamstress for Norge Village. Verna enjoyed sewing, quilting, babysitting and most of all spending special times with her children and grandchildren. She attended Jeffersonville Assembly of God. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robbie Conn officiating. Burial will follow in Crix Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derek Howard, Caliem Hardin, Jamie Stidham, Jordan Stidham, Caleb Stidham, and Joe Wray. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
