Verna Hay Carey, age 76, of Heritage Place, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at her residence. Born April 21, 1935, in Rowan County, Kentucky, Verna was the daughter of the late John and Audrey Brown Hay. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Angelean Hay Sexton, Kendrick Hay, Rose Mae Hay Johnson, and infants James Stanley Hay, Charlotte Hay and Louise Hay. She is survived by one daughter, Sherry Walker of Morehead, Kentucky; two sons, Keith Johnson and Jimmy Carey and his wife Kristal, all of Morehead, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Terry McKenzie, Lynn Kissick, Josh Trent, Tyler Fraley, Morgan Carey, Kyle Fraley, and Madison Carey; five great grandchildren, Justin McKenzie, Teisha McKenzie, Dalton McKenzie, Makenzie Kissick, and Braxton Trent; and one great-great grandchild, Kaden Hudson. Other survivors include one sister, Celia Hay of Winchester, Kentucky, and two brothers, Quenton Hay of Salinas, California, and Jeffery Hay of Winchester, Kentucky. Verna was full of love for her family and friends, spirituality for God, and she enjoyed life. She especially enjoyed sports, watching children, grandchildren, and U.K. basketball. She was a member of the East End Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Ray Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jimmy Carey, Josh Trent, Kyle Fraley, Tyler Fraley, Sam Kissick, Daniel Holbrook, Justin McKenzie, and Johnny Holbrook. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky. Visitation: Monday, May 2, 2011, after 4 p.m. Funeral: Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 3 p.m. Interment: Brown Cemetery
