Vercil E. Jones, age 72, of Green Bend Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at his residence. Born August 26, 1938, in Clearfield, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John S. and Bessie Harggis Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Wilford, Glendon, Sherden, Clayton, Wade, and Dale Jones; four sisters, Amanda Brown, Carrie Jones, Juanita Kershaw, and Kathy Kissick; and one step son, Robert Bryan Johnson. Vercil is survived by his wife of 37 years, Dorothy Johnson Jones, whom he married June 26, 1974; two brothers and one sister, Teddy Jones, Elmer Jones, and Olonia Livingood, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and other siblings; two step sons, Charles -Chuck- Johnson and David Johnson and wife Debbie, all of Morehead, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, David Johnson, Jr., Michelle Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Kelly Krow, Chase Johnson, Phillip Johnson, and Samantha Johnson; five great grandchildren, Gabriel Johnson, Gage Jones, Siera Krow, Kadance Manier, and Skyler Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Vercil retired from Jernigan Construction Company of Springfield, Missouri, after more than 15 years as foreman. He was involved with clearing the timber with Jernigan Construction preparing the area for Cave Run Lake. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, ginseng hunting, and playing bingo. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Slaty Point Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Johnson, Terry Johnson, David Johnson, Jr., Jeff Jones, Shane Livingood, and Jim Livingood. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
