Vera "June" Brown Casteel, age 68, of Sitka, Kentucky, formerly of Rowan County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2024, at her residence.

She was born March 2, 1956, in Morehead, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Willie and Lucy Barker Brown.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Kay Deweese and Patricia Whitt.

She is survived by two sons, Billy Plank and Lisa of Kaufman, Texas, and Jeremy Plank and Deana Maynard of Sitka, Kentucky; one daughter, Erica Nestor of Morgantown, West Virginia; and eight grandchildren: Alexa Crawford, Brendan Plank, Christina Plank, Eli Plank, Anthony Nestor, Brianna Nestor, Jillian Nestor, and Tristan Nestor.

Others who will cherish her memory include one brother, Lee Barker of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Marilyn Nickell of Morehead, Kentucky, Rose Brown and Connie Brown, both of Portsmouth, Ohio; other relatives; and many friends.

June's love for others was admirable. She was a positive person who always thought of others first and will be remembered as loving, encouraging, and strong. She was a former manager for Wal-Mart stores in West Virginia and Pennsylvania and enjoyed traveling, the great outdoors, playing Yahtzee and board games, and most of all spending time with her family. June loved Jesus and would faithfully watch on-line services.  She will be greatly missed and always remembered.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Kelly Caudill officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
