Obituary

Vada Joyce Cartee Parker, age 95, of Buffalo Branch, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the home of her daughter. Born December 20, 1917, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Edward and Mary Jane Artis Cartee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Elwood Parker, who passed away March 18, 1997, and a son, Jack Edward Parker, on November 11, 1982. Mrs. Parker is survived by one daughter, Mary Andrea Knipp and husband Austin; one son, Richard Alan Parker and wife Gary Eileen; and a daughter-in-law, Ruby Mae Parker, all of Morehead, Kentucky; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 23 great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Coleen Y. Kelley and Georgia E. Rice, both of Morehead, Kentucky; other family members; and friends. Joyce worked at Willow Run Factory in Michigan during World War II and was a cook in Morehead at several places including the Haldeman School and Dixie Grill. Later, she was a clerk at the Big Store 5 and 10. Joyce was a devoted homemaker who especially enjoyed quilting and canning. She was also an outdoor person who thoroughly enjoyed yard work. In the last several years, Joyce enjoyed listening to the Gaithers. She was a member of Morehead First Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Brent Parker, Chris Parker, Mike Parker, Ed Knipp, John Knipp, Travis Henderson, Eric Henderson, and William Jessee. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Friday, January 4, 2013, after 4 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
