Twila Belle (Fischer) Coffey, 94, of Morehead, KY, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville, KY. She was born June 21, 1921, in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas, a daughter of the late Charles Henry Fischer and Elizabeth Mary Bray Downey Fischer. Besides her parents, Twila was preceded in death by her husband, John C. 'Johnie' Coffey on September 17, 1981, whom she married June 6, 1943, in Paris, Texas; four brothers: Clarence Howard Fischer and his wife Donna of Cedar Park, Texas; Charles Robert Fischer and his wife Cleo (Cox) of Kansas City, Kansas; Edwin Francis Fischer and his wife Dorothy (Doudna) of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; George Godfrey Fischer of Kansas City, Kansas; one half-sister: Frances Gertrude (Downey) Kelley and her husband Walter of Hammond Lake, Indiana. Twila graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS, in 1939. She was a member of the Morehead First Church of God. She retired from General Telephone Electric after 30 years of service from 1953-1983. Throughout the years Twila was an active volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, RSVP, Rowan County Board of Education and St. Claire Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, needlepointing and quilting as well as working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Twila loved her family and friends, especially her wide circle of GTE friends. Twila is survived by four children: Johnnie A. and wife Jaunetta Kay (Adkins) Coffey of Winchester, KY; Donald J. and wife Judith Lynn (Gay) Coffey, of Paris, KY; Carolyn Sue 'Sissy' Coffey and special friend Martha J. Adcock of Morehead, KY; and Joanne (Coffey) Lambertson and husband Michael of Morehead, KY; five grandchildren, Melody Sue Pennington-Cole and husband Jonathan of Lexington, KY; Jeffrey Allen Coffey and wife Tabatha (Hoover) of Richmond, KY; Rebecca Dawn (Coffey) McCann and husband Harry of Flemingsburg, KY; Jason Michael Lambertson of Florida; and John Wingate Lambertson of Morehead, KY; four great grandchildren: Hunter Jonathan Cole, Brooke Elizabeth Cole, Carrington Faith Coffey, and Caramia Paige Coffey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Twila is also survived by a paternal cousin of her childhood, Edna Elizabeth (Fischer) Collins of Quebec, Canada, with whom she has corresponded all these many decades. Funeral services will be held at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Ben Tackett and Brother Herbie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Community Cemetery, Fultz Road, Rowan County, KY. Pallbearers: Jeff Coffey, Jason Lambertson, John Lambertson, Jonathan Cole, David Lewis, and Gary Lewis. Visitation will be held Friday, April 15, 2016, after 5:00 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Twila to a charity of your choice.
