Troy Wyatt Burgess, 91, of Morehead, retired executive staff member at Morehead State University, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013, after a lengthy illness. A native of Mayfield, Troy was born May 19, 1922, the daughter of the late Otis and Eva McClain Wyatt. She was a graduate of Mayfield High School. George R. Burgess Sr., her husband of 37 years, preceded her in death in 1988. Troy is survived by a son, George R. Burgess Jr. of Frankfort and his wife Cathy; two grandsons, Edward Chase Burgess of Washington, DC, and George Taylor Burgess of Lexington; a brother, Dr. George M. Wyatt and his wife, Dr. Cheryl Stewart, of Union, Ky.; six nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Troy and her family moved to Morehead in 1964 where she and her husband joined the staff at MSU and they became immersed in University and community life. Troy served as executive secretary in the Office of the President and George was director of photographic services and assistant professor of history. They had more than 50 years of combined service to MSU. Lovingly known to her family as 'Tossie', Troy regarded her son and grandsons as her 'pride and joy'. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a longtime volunteer for St. Claire Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 7 p.m. at Morehead First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 227 E. Main Street, by Dr. John Opsata. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be Tuesday in Highland Park Cemetery in Mayfield with a graveside service at 1 p.m. CDT. Officiating will be the Rev. Randy Cook. Pallbearers: Harry Lee Waterfield II, Robert M. Hardy Jr., William S. May, Jack Holley, Marvin E. Strong Jr., Gregory L. Williamson, Gordon C. Duke. Memorial gifts may be directed to the MSU Foundation, Inc., Palmer Development House, Morehead, KY 40351, or the St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
