Toney Nelson Phillips, 58, of Meadow Lane, Morehead, known to family and friends as Nelson, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018, at his residence. Born January 30, 1960, in Lexington, Nelson is the son of Mary Haggan Phillips of Morehead and Toney Cloy Phillips, who passed away October 22, 2007. In addition to his mother, Nelson is survived by one sister, Cynthia Haggard of Lexington, whose husband Brian passed away February 27, 2014. For many years, Nelson was an employee of Pasquales and Tom's Pizza, both in Morehead. In 2016, he graduated from Morehead State University with a major in geology. An avid reader, Nelson also loved the outdoors and was fascinated with the natural world-astronomy was one of his favorite subjects. His many activities included hiking, spelunking, kayaking, rappelling and swimming. He was an ardent supporter of S.T.A.R. (Saving the Animals of Rowan). A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Lee Cemetery with Dr. J. D. Reeder officiating. Pallbearers: Ronnie Brooks, Ricky McKinney, Ricky Turner, George Humphries, Larry Tackett, Thomas Albert, David Perkins, and Charles Gross.
