Obituary

Thomas Sherwood 'Tommy' Shay, age 80, of McBrayer Road, Clearfield, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at his home. Born May 25, 1936, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Max and Pruda Flannery Shay. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Shay and Robert 'Bobby' Shay, and two sisters, Tammy Shay and Marlene Bradley. Also, one son, Thomas Jeffrey 'Jeff' Shay, passed away July 29, 2014. Tommy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Evelyn Lewis Shay, whom he married October 8, 1957; one daughter, Jennifer Shay Crawford of Clearfield; one daughter-in-law, Anna Marie Pritchard Shay of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren, Tamara (Jordon) Pennington, Thomas Michael Shay, and Lynn Marie Shay; two great grandchildren, Aubree Shay Pennington and Addilyn Jordon Pennington; one sister, Maxine Santi of Chicago, Illinois; and a special friend, Jimmy Luke Spurlock of Morehead. Tommy was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a retired truck driver. He began driving a truck with Shay Lumber Company, the family business in Morehead, and retired from Gateway in Tampa, Florida, after working more than 30 years. Tommy loved fishing almost as much as he enjoyed traveling in his truck and spending time with his family. He always looked forward to family get-togethers, cooking out, and reminiscing. He will be sadly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Legion members will also serve as pallbearers. Visitation for Tommy Shay is 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
