Obituary

Thomas Alvin Messer, age 75, of Cromer Road, Morehead, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Born August 7, 1950, in Chillicothe, Ohio, he was a son of the late Thomas Preston Messer and Lola Stevens Messer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dianna Sue Fultz Messer on March 3, 1999; a daughter, Jennifer Sue "Jenny" Messer on February 4, 2023; and a brother, Larry Major Messer.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary (Philip) Cromer of Morehead; four sons, Timothy (Jamie) Messer of Olive Hill, Donnie Messer and Rick (Kala) Messer, all of Morehead, and Charlie (Dawn) Messer of Wallingford; and eight grandchildren, Tyler Cromer, Kegan Messer, Zeb Messer, Ariel Messer, Sawyer Messer, Avarie Dewitt, Ed Stephens, and T.J. Stephens.

Additional survivors include two brothers, Othar Messer of Morehead and Stanley Messer of South Shore; five sisters, Faye Smith of Morehead, Gay Evans of Olive Hill, Katie Evans of Morehead, Aileen Messer of Fleming County, and Eva Douglas of Russell; a special friend, Amber Archer of Wallingford; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Thomas retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation in 2000, where he worked on the bridge crew. He enjoyed attending church, tending his garden, and especially loved growing flowers. A devoted U.K. fan, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Wildcats. Above all, Thomas cherished the time he spent with his family. His love and kindness will be remembered always, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
