William Terry McKenzie, age 79, of Delta Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation in Grayson, Kentucky, from complications from pneumonia.
Terry was born January 6, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Haskell Burl McKenzie and Pauline McKinney McKenzie. in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, David Huff.
Terry is survived by his wife, Linda Mabry McKenzie; a son, Steve (Karyn) McKenzie of Georgetown, Kentucky; a daughter, Angie Huff of Shelbyville, Kentucky; and their mother, Rosemary McKenzie of Shelbyville, Kentucky; one stepdaughter, Renee (Tim) Smith of West Liberty, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Matthew (Haleigh) Huff, Austin (Brittany) Huff, Elizabeth McKenzie, and Michael McKenzie; one step grandson, Kordell Smith; and one great granddaughter, Korie Jean Huff.
Other survivors include a younger brother, Jimmy (Mary Ann) McKenzie of Muncie, Indiana; one sister, Jane (Paul) Everhart of Corbin, Kentucky, as well as other family and friends, including many friends in Corbin, Kentucky, where he lived for several years.
At a young age, Terry and his family moved to Morehead where he graduated from Rowan County High School in 1963. Following his graduation, Terry worked for Servomation Vending Services in Morehead until he joined Toyota in Georgetown in 1986. He retired from Toyota in 2010 to care for his ailing parents in Corbin.
In the fall of 2010, Terry and Linda attended their high school class reunion. Although they graduated from Rowan County High in the same year, they had dated other people in high school, had married other people, and had not seen each other in decades. Terry and Linda married within three months after the reunion and enjoyed 13 years of a wonderful marriage.
Terry enjoyed reading Dick Francis novels, watching old time Westerns on television, and walking with pride and vigor. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating. The service will be livestreamed at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Mabry, Dale Mabry, Michael McKenzie, Matthew Huff, Austin Huff, and Kordell Smith.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer's Association.
