Ted Harper Ockerman, age 81, of Morehead, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Hospice of Lake Cumberland, a veterans facility, in Kings Mountain, Kentucky. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on July 17, 1932, a son of the late Elmer Harper and Evelyn Mae Peterson Ockerman. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Alan Eric Ockerman. Ted's wife, Geraldine Dickerson Ockerman, passed away on November 12, 2006. He is survived by one son, Michael Allen Ockerman and his wife Stephanie, of Morehead. By trade, Ted was a truck driver, roofer, and carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea in 1951-52 with Co. B 27th Infantry Regiment 25th Division. He earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge, National Defense Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal with one Battle Star, U.N./Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, marksmanship badges for pistol and expert rifle and grenade, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Award. He was a life member of American Legion Post 126 of Morehead and V.F.W. Post 03131. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Full military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 126 Legion members will also serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 126, P. O. Box 58, Morehead, KY 40351.
