Taeko Kurokawa White, age 81, of Georgetown, formerly of Clearfield, was born August 21, 1935, in Hiroshima, Japan, and passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017. Taeko is survived by her devoted spouse of 51 years, Lloyd (Dee) White, whom she wed May 4, 1964, in Hiroshima, Japan, and her loving children, Lloyd White Jr. (daughter-in-law Tammy and granddaughter Haley) of Maysville and Anita Harmon (son-in-law Dan and granddaughter Amanda) of Georgetown; sister-in-law, Wanda White Carpenter of Lexington; and other dear relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by several brothers in Japan and has one surviving sister. Taeko was a Hiroshima survivor; the first female to sail an unmotorized sailboat island to island in Japan (she was 18); a Judo instructor for the U.S. military in Japan; and an expert swimmer. Most of all, Taeko was a loving wife, mother, and mamaw whose granddaughters were her pride and joy. Her legacy will live on in generations to come. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Clearfield Cemetery with her nephew, Rodney Profit, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 1317 U.S. 62, Cynthiana, KY 41031 or the American Cancer Society.
