Susan Allen
Chin
Jul 20, 1953 — May 20, 2026
Susan Allen Chin, lovingly known as "Mom," "Aunt Hoo Hoo," "Momma Chin," and "Grammy" to those who held her dearest, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on May 20, 2026, in the arms of her soulmate, surrounded by her family, in her home on Knapp Avenue in Morehead, Kentucky.
Susan was born on July 20, 1953, at Sampson Air Force Base (Romulus, New York), the cherished daughter of John "Sonny" Allen and Merl Fair Allen. She graduated from Breckinridge Training School, where she proudly carried the title of "Breck Brat" throughout her life. Susan later graduated from Morehead State University and was a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Above all else, the most important things in Susan's life were her family, her dogs, and the people she loved so deeply.
She was the devoted wife of Terry Chin, her beloved partner in life and love. Their story began with a blind date, and from that moment on, their love continued to grow. Susan and Terry married on July 29, 1988, and together built a home filled with love, laughter, unwavering support, and countless memories centered around their children.
Susan was the proud and loving mother of Raymond, Jessie, and TJ. Her world revolved around her children and her love language was showing up, always. Regardless of what sport it was, Susan never missed a game. From the stands, her voice could always be heard above the crowd, cowbell in hand, proudly cheering on the people she loved most. She was once revered as the "Little League Mother from Hell," a nickname that perfectly reflected her fierce loyalty, passionate spirit, and unwavering dedication to her children.
Susan's impactful personality knew no boundaries. To her nieces and nephews, she was "Aunt Hoo Hoo," a constant source of encouragement, love, and support. She showed up for them just as she did for her own children, celebrating their accomplishments, supporting them through life's challenges, and making each of them feel deeply loved. The bond she shared with them was special and lasting, and the memories made with Aunt Hoo Hoo will forever be cherished.
To many of Raymond, Jessie, and TJ's friends, she became a second mother, affectionately known as "Momma Chin." Her home was always open, and those who came through her door were welcomed, cared for, and made to feel like family.
Susan was emotional, but tough. She was compassionate, and never afraid to proudly defend the people who mattered most to her. She cared deeply for those who befriended her, and there was never any doubt where she stood with them.
Her life was centered not only around her own children, but around children, families, and people throughout the community. Susan's generous heart for people landed her in the role of Regional Homeless Services Coordinator throughout Eastern Kentucky. In her role serving the homeless community, she helped secure grants and resources to support those less fortunate.
Some of Susan's happiest moments were Sunday dinners at her parents' house, surrounded by her siblings, Janie Holbrook (Eddie), Patty James (Craig), Dwayne Allen (Kim) and the rest of her family. She had a special love for Christmas and traditions that brought people together. Susan found joy in decorating her home, often filling it with beautifully decorated trees, treasured Hallmark ornaments, and handcrafted wreaths and décor. She took pride in her gardening, especially the homegrown green beans that were second to none and the famous Vincent Watt's tomatoes she raised each summer. Whether through a warm meal, a beautifully decorated home, or simply making people feel welcome, Susan had a way of turning ordinary moments into lasting memories.
As much as Susan loved her children, becoming a Grammy brought her an even deeper joy. She adored her granddaughters, Andie and Addisen, and loved planning full weeks of activities, adventures, and special memories whenever they visited from Florida. She was overjoyed to welcome Kayla into the family (TJ's wife) and in 2025, she was blessed to welcome their son, her first grandson, Axel to the family. Susan was also joyfully awaiting the arrival of her third granddaughter, in August.
Susan leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and devotion. She will be remembered for the way she showed up, the way she protected her family, the way she made others feel welcome, and the way she loved with her whole heart. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love she gave will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Susan is preceded in death by her father John "Sonny" Allen, mother Merl Fair Allen and sister Janie Allen Holbrook. She is survived by her husband Terry J. Chin, children: Raymond Chin, Jessie Chin, TJ and Kayla Chin, grandchildren: Andie Chin, Addisen Chin, Axel Chin and soon to be baby girl Chin. Siblings: Eddie Holbrook, Patty and Craig James, and Dwayne and Kim Allen.
