Susan Renee Snipes Armstrong

Susan Renee Snipes Armstrong, age 64, of KY Hwy 519, Morehead, KY, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 1, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born September 13, 1961, in Morehead, she was the daughter of the late John Edward and Mary Marie Perkins Snipes. Her loving husband of 40 years, Daniel Preston Armstrong, preceded her in death on April 15, 2020.

She is survived by three children: Daniel Michael Armstrong and wife Jennifer of Morehead, Brandon David Armstrong of Morehead, and Jennifer Kathryn Armstrong of Richmond, KY; two granddaughters, Mary Olivia Katherine Armstrong and Hannah Elizabeth Grace Armstrong; one brother, David S. Johnson and wife Lucy of Savannah, GA; one niece, Sarah and husband Corey; and one nephew, James; as well as extended family and dear friends.

On March 28, 1980, Susan married the love of her life, Preston Armstrong. Together they built a loving home and raised three children, who were the center of her world. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, never missing an opportunity to support her children. Whether it was football games, baseball games, or other school activities, Susan could always be found in the stands cheering them on.

Susan found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved bringing home flowers, although it often fell to Preston to keep them thriving. Their shared laughter over her ever-growing collection of plants became one of the many cherished memories of their life together.

She was also an enthusiastic collector of Longaberger baskets and beautiful dishes. Her family often joked that becoming a Longaberger consultant was simply a way to support her favorite habit—a story Susan was always happy to laugh about.

Susan enjoyed her different work experiences. She began her career working for John Cox at the Rowan County Courthouse before joining Peoples Bank, where she formed friendships and memories that she treasured throughout her life. She later managed Downtown BP, where her warm personality, dedication, and genuine kindness made a lasting impression on countless customers and coworkers.

In 2013, Susan with Preston’s help fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening Quilter's Candy Shop. As the business grew, she expanded into a larger space where quilters, sewers, and friends could gather to create, laugh, and enjoy one another's company. What began as a quilt shop quickly became a place of fellowship. Many of her customers became lifelong friends who celebrated life's joys and offered comfort during difficult times. Her beloved "Tuesday Crew" shared countless memories with her and even helped entertain her granddaughter on more than one occasion. The quilting community became an extension of her family, and their love and support meant the world to her.

Susan also loved to travel with her family. Weekend trips to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, became treasured traditions. Although there was always something new to explore, they faithfully returned to favorite stops like The Old Mill Restaurant, the crafter loop, and the Dixie Stampede, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Whether heading to Boston, Florida, Alabama, or simply taking a spontaneous drive, Susan embraced every adventure. Family road trips in the "big red van" were filled with games of I Spy, counting water towers, Conway Twitty songs on the radio, and plenty of laughter. Later adventures in the little "red bug" often led to Raggedy Ann festivals, antique shops, and quilt stores—perfect destinations for someone who found beauty in handmade treasures and time spent with those she loved.

Her greatest legacy was not the places she traveled or the collections she cherished, but the love she shared so freely with her family and friends. Susan's generous heart, welcoming spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be remembered always. She was a kind, beautiful and warm soul to be around.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Armstrong Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Michael Armstrong, Brandon Armstrong, Stefan Armstrong, Tracy Kitchen, Wade Kitchen, and Harvey Pennington. Honorary Pallbearers: Gene Johnson and Randy McVey.
