Obituary

Steve Ward, age 79, of Shadelawn Drive, Mt. Sterling, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was born October 19, 1943, in Morgan County, a son of the late Wilbur and Ressie Walters Ward.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Hedges.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Bell Ward; one son, Mark (Karen) Ward of Greenville, South Carolina, and two granddaughters, Allie (Spencer) Chamberlain and Olivia (Marcus) Russell.

Steve was a U.S. Navy veteran.  He retired from BellSouth-AT&T after 37 years as a cable technician and loved farming and gardening.  He was a member of Hope First Church of God.

A funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Hope First Church of God with Donald Rudd and Glen Sizemore officiating.  Burial will follow in Machpelah Cemetery with military honors presented by Mt. Sterling American Legion Post 22.

Pallbearers will be Jr. Wightman, Sam Manley, Billy Chapel, Bruce Witt, Stewart Morton, and Dwain Ginter.  Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Campbell, Winfred Havens, Bill Grayson, David Motley, Carl McGlothin, Rex Mann, Chuck Toy, Danny Chandler, Dudley Wilson, Dale Musson, and John Cox.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Hope First Church of God, 10272 Hope Means Road, Hope, KY 40334.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shriners Hospital or American Cancer Society.
