Stephen Gray
Crain
Jan 29, 1946 — Feb 4, 2023
Stephen Gray Crain, age 77, of Ellington Loop, Morehead, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord February 4, 2023, with his loved ones by his side at his daughter's home.
Born January 29, 1946, in Portland, Oregon, he was a son of the late CDR Leonard Herald Crain and Bessie Louise Smith Crain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Crain and Gary Crain; one daughter, Rebecca Talan; and one grandson, Gabriel Crain.
Stephen fought a long and courageous fight against cancer with an incredible will to live. He enjoyed living independently in his tiny house on his daughter's farm. Movie and game nights were enjoyed almost every night. Stephen loved watching his granddaughter from his back porch ride her horses. Growing up in La Mesa, California, Stephen attended Helix High School and loved playing baseball on an all-star team. He was a fun-loving sibling who loved to joke and have a good time. Stephen proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969; then, he began a long career in civil service at Edwards Air Force base as an electrician where he later retired.
Mr. Crain is survived by two daughters, Denise (Jerry) Wheeless of Morehead and Taylor Crain of Arkansas: one brother, Jim Crain of Oklahoma; two sisters, Dixie Strople of California and Judy Hill (Ken) of Washington; and five grandchildren, Isabella Zingle, Lane Talan, Heidi-lee Wheeless, Marcus Crain and Harley Atkinson. Many special nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted 12 noon, Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, 100 Veterans Memorial Drive, Grayson, Kentucky. Morehead American Legion Post 126 will present full military honors with Chaplain Rufus Williams officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
