Obituary

Shirley Burke Johnson, age 76, of Lee Court, Mt. Sterling, where she resided for the past six years with her daughter, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling. Born September 29, 1940, at Virgie in Pike County, was a daughter of the late Piercy Delmar and Edna Hudson Burke. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Johnny Johnson; three brothers: Acy, Delmer Jr., and Jerry Burke; four sisters: infant Virginia Burke, Nona Smith, Fronia Shelton, Norella Burke; and one great granddaughter: Melody Coulter. Shirley is survived by two daughters: Dede Burchett and Kevin of Wellington and Tammy Warner and Gavin of Mt. Sterling; three grandchildren: Jeremy Caudill, Brittany Holbrook, and Heather Kadwell; and four great grandchildren: Bradley, Wyatt, Liam, and Elle Caudill. Other survivors include two brothers: Truman Burke of Tavares, Florida, and Tony Burke of Bristolville, Ohio; two sisters: Jean Bredin and Judy O'Neal of Gulf Shores, Alabama; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Following retirement, Shirley moved to Wellington in 1996 after residing in Michigan for forty years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed homemaking and loved quilting. She was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church for 52 years. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Elder Ted Burke and Elder Paul Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in Big Woods Cemetery in Wellington. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is Monday, May 1, 2017, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
