Shirley Franklin Gibbs, age 81, of Winchester, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016, at his home. Born October 16, 1934, at Jeffersonville, in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Russell Green Gibbs, Sr., and Margaret Ann King Gibbs. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell (Doc) Green Gibbs, Jr., and Omar E. Gibbs, and three sisters, Ruth Saunders, Ethel Harris, and Alice Harris. Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife of 58 years, Myrtie L. (Caudill) Gibbs, whom he married May 25, 1958; one son, Jeffrey Wayne Gibbs and wife Stephanie of Stafford, Virginia; one grandson, Joshua Paul Franklin Gibbs (serving in the U.S. Army) and wife Renee now living in Arizona; two great grandchildren, Shea Gibbs and Kaydence Gibbs; and one brother, Jerry Ray Gibbs and wife Jean of Lexington. Shirley was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired self-employed electrical contractor. He was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday, August 10, 2016, with Elder Cephas Littleton and Rev. Donald Hale officiating. Burial will follow in the Cranston Cemetery with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Legion members will also serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
