Obituary

Sherman Earl Cooley, age 85, of Dare Drive, Mt. Sterling, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013, at Windsor Care in Mount Sterling. Born December 16, 1927, at Brinegar in Carter County, he was a son of Elmer and Rebecca Butler Cooley. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Homer Cooley and Clyde Cooley; sister, Elizabeth Cooley; grandson, Mark Cooley; and son-in-law, Larry Blevins. Earl is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lynn Blevins Cooley, whom he married April 25, 1995; six children, Anthony Cooley of Lexington, Karen and Dr. Earl 'Chip' Wood of Seneca, South Carolina, Ronald Cooley, Patricia Blevins, Rhonda and Paul Banks, Regina and David Caskey, all of Morehead; two stepchildren, Michael and Crystal Roe and Jason Roe, all of Morehead; special sister-in-law, Beverly Dehart and husband Ed of Morehead; 20 grandchildren, Mike, Ronnie Neal, Robbie, and Crystal Cooley; Joseph, JR, Jeremy, Johnathon, and Justin Blevins; Jessica Fugate; Clint Wood; Leslie Roberts; Rachel and Alli Banks; Carlee, Baleigh, and Abby Caskey; Cassie, Dakota, and Gini Beth Roe; 17 great grandchildren; extended family members and friends. Earl was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and recipient of the WWII Victory Medal. He retired from Brodrick Steel Company in Muncie, Indiana, and enjoyed telling stories and watching U.K. basketball. Earl was a member of Hayes Branch Community Church. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Phillip Fraley officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Carter County with military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Thursday, October 31, 2013, from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Funeral: Friday, November 1, 2013, at 2 p.m. Interment: Garvin Ridge Cemetery, Carter County
