Samuel Franklin -Sonny- Conley, 73, of Hillsboro, Kentucky, husband of Linda L. (Strange) Conley, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead after a long illness. Born April 27, 1938, in Morgan County, Kentucky, he was the son of Salena Susan Conley. Sonny served in the U.S. Air Force, retired from the California oil fields, and after 17 years of service retired from Anderson Communities in Lexington, Kentucky. While at Anderson Communities, Sonny was everyone-s -Pappy- and had an award named in his honor. He loved fishing and traveling to Tennessee, especially to Cades Cove, with his family. He also loved attending Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church. Besides his wife, Linda, of 18 years, he is survived by his -lil friend,- Buddy, his dog; a special grandson, Chris Bales, who helped care for him during his illness; a daughter, Lavetta Conley of Oklahoma; a daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Strange of Winchester; a son, Kevin Conley of Clay City; a son, Paul Conley of Arkansas; a daughter, LaCassa (Eddie) Mekelburg of Owingsville; a daughter, Karin Riddle (Jr. Cantrell); and a daughter, Elizabeth (Arthur) Bales, both of Hillsboro; a son, Rusty Lamb; a daughter, Teresa Fevold; and special friends, Katrina Wallace, Tammy Criswell, Johnny Thompson, and Melachi Mattingly. He is also survived by a sister, Joretta (George) Oney of West Liberty; a brother, Harry (Deever) Patrick of Owingsville; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Pergram and Marie Thomas; a nephew, Charles Nelson Thomas; and two stepsons, Leslie Lamb and Vance Fowler. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Harley Sexton, Jr. and Brother George Oney officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Bales, Arthur Bales, Eddie Mekelburg, Jr. Cantrell, Zachary Thompson, Tony Thomas, and Tim Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be his longtime buddies from Anderson Communities, Dennis Anderson, Gene Blanton, Duane Carlson, Zeke Arthur, Kevin Linville, Jeremy Gribbins, and Melburn Bradley. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Tuesday, October 18, 2011, after 6 p.m. Funeral: Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at 1 p.m. Interment: Hillsboro Cemetery
