Samuel L. Hargis, age 62, of Maple Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born October 24, 1944, at Smile Kentucky, he was the son of the late William Russell Hargis. One brother, William Russell Hargis, Jr., preceded him in death in 1959. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kaye Ashford Hargis; two daughters, Susan A. Baber of Morehead, Kentucky, and Lesley Slone of Oakland, Maryland; one brother, Roger (Butch) Hargis of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Betty H. Calvert of Morehead, Kentucky, Shirley Bundy of St. Louis, Missouri, and Carolyn S. Butler of Maysville, Kentucky. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Joshua Riggsby, Zachary Riggsby, Emily Riggsby, and Matthew Slone. A graduate of Rowan County High School, he served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1982 and was in Desert Storm. He was an employee of G.T.E. for 25 years and was currently employed by AT&T in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a Kentucky Colonel and member of the Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Don Mantooth officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
