Sammy K. Hanshel, age 60, of Freestone Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at the residence of his friend, Doug Harris. Born November 14, 1949, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Orville Hanshel and Effie Curtis. Sammy is survived by two sons, Allen Hanshel and Kevin Hanshel, both of Clearfield, Kentucky; one daughter, Lisa Marie McKenzie of Morehead, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, Bobby Hanshel, Justin McKenzie, Teisha McKenzie, and Dalton McKenzie. Also surviving are two brothers, Roy Wayne -Woody- Curtis of Salt Lick, Kentucky, and Danny Ray Hanshel of Rowan County, Kentucky; one sister, Billie Jo Caudill of Winchester, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. Sammy was a former telecommunications technician. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Hanshel, Curtis Edmounds, Ronnie Harris, Doug Harris, Gary Harris, Chase Conley, and James Donathan.
