Ruth Pennington Stamper, age 68, of Stamper Ridge, Elliott County, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016, at her home. Born June 26, 1948, in Pikeville, she was a daughter of the late Frank Pennington and Sally Reed Rowe. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melissa Marie Stamper, and three brothers, James, Charles, and Bobby Pennington. Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Ancil Stamper, whom she married August 6, 1965 ; two daughters, Mary Ann Gilliam and husband Joe of Morehead and Wendy Stamper Baxter of Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, Mark Stamper and wife Susie of Morehead; and grandchildren, Robert, Morgan, Brandon, Payton, Kianna, and Chloe; and step grandson, Jeremy. Other survivors include two sisters, Faye Stamper and Jerry and Frankie Stamper and Richard, all of Elliott County; four brothers, Buddy Pennington and Dale of Elliott County, Scottie Pennington and Vicki of Urbana, Indiana, Marvin Ray Rowe and Jondra of Mansfield, Ohio, Max Rowe and Teena of Lexington, Ohio; nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who enjoyed taking care of her family. She also enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing, cooking delicious meals, growing all kinds of flowers, and crocheting. Ruth especially loved spending time with family and friends dancing, listening to music, and playing Bingo and rummy. She was a member of Elliottville Baptist Church. Ruth will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Willie Sturgill officiating. Burial will follow in the Stamper Cemetery in Elliott County. Pallbearers: John Stamper, Jerry Stamper, Richard Stamper, Buddy Pennington, Robert Stegall, Brandon Ferguson.
