Obituary

Ruth Carole Perry Stewart, 82, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, at UK-St. Claire Hospital.

Born January 22, 1943, in Morehead, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Ruth Perry.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Donnie Hugh Stewart.

Carole graduated from Morehead State University and pursued a career in education where she taught for a number of years and then worked for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Cabinet for Human Resources as an Area Liaison.  She had a strong passion for children and strived to ensure they had every opportunity possible to succeed.  She also served as the Chairman of the Board at the Rowan County Christian Academy.

After retiring from the Department of Education, she and Donnie opened a retail store on Main Street in Morehead in the same location where her father, for many years, had his gun shop and hardware store. She named the business Daddy's Daughter and sold a variety of products including jewelry and miscellaneous items purchased through her connection with QVC.

Carole was a very intelligent, adventuresome, creative, and generous person.  She appreciated antique furniture and had a love of jewelry, which she enjoyed designing.  She also enjoyed cars, especially Corvettes, starting with the first one she received on her 16th birthday. On a different note, Carole was an avid tennis player in her younger years where she won numerous tournaments and events.

Carole was a lifetime member of the Morehead First Church of God where she was saved and baptized at the age of 13.  She remained a faithful servant to her Lord and Savior the remainder of her life.

Survivors include one stepson, Alan Stewart and his wife Christina of Butte, Montana, cousins Willard Calvert (Candy), Bill Calvert (Cathy), Joe Calvert (Donna), Vicki Brinegar (Barry), Steve Calvert (Bianca), and Paula Calvert.  Two others, Tom Calvert (Sharron) and Richard Calvert, preceded her in death. Also surviving are her two very special dogs, Ellie and Max.

We would also like to express our gratitude and thanks for her exceptional caretaker team who stayed with her 24/7 tending to her every want and need.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Memorial Chapel with Pastor Allan Hutchinson officiating.  Burial will be at Brown Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Willard Calvert, Ryan Calvert, Bill Calvert, Joe Calvert, Wesley Besselman, and Alan Stewart.
