Rudy Mapel, age 68, of Camargo Road, Mt. Sterling, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at his home surrounded by family. Born May 14, 1947, in Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Teresa Hainline Mapel. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Mapel; two sisters, Pauline Thacker and Joan Bolin; and an infant daughter, Charlotte Jo Mapel. Rudy is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Brenda Joyce Mapel, whom he wed April 21, 1967; a daughter, Deidra 'Dea' Mapel Baldridge; a son, Eric Mapel and his wife Becky, all of Mt. Sterling; and five grandchildren, Tara, Gage, Gavin, Madison, and Marissa. Other survivors include a brother, Billy Mapel and wife Patsy, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Mapel, all of Jeffersonville; a sister-in-law, Lisa Eason and her husband Robert of Lorena, Texas; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rudy was a member of Operating Engineers, Local 181; owned and operated Rudy Mapel Backhoe Service for 16 years; and retired from the Montgomery County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. Rudy was a board member and secretary for the Montgomery County Sanitation District, a 29-year member of Mt. Sterling Lions Club, a Kentucky Colonel, and active in many community projects. A great outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting; but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Rudy was an active member of the Camargo Church of God. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at the Camargo Church of God with Frank Curtis, Martin McIntosh, Jeff Perkins, and Jim Skidmore officiating, and Vernon Coffey providing the eulogy. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mike Donathan, Jeremy Caudill, Bob Combs, Mark Terry, Kelly Eckles, Steve Bentley, and grandsons, Gage and Gavin Mapel. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the Camargo Church of God. A Lions Club Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rudy's memory are suggested to the Camargo Church of God, Ella's Outreach, 4322 Camargo Road, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead is caring for arrangements. Visitation: Thursday, April 28, 2016, 4-9 pm, Camargo Church of God.
