Ruby Lucille Manning Rather, 95, of Morehead, KY, passed away Friday, May 13, 2016, at Life Care Center of Morehead following a recent illness. Born March 25, 1921, in Warren County, KY, Ruby was a daughter of the late Stanford Millard Manning and Anna Catherine Rasdall Manning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings, Martha Young, Stanley Manning, Earline Overfelt, and Robert J. Manning. Her husband of 50 years, Aubrey Jewell (A. J.) Rather, passed away December 23, 1990. Mrs. Rather is survived by her daughters, Carole Fisher (Larry) of Johns Creek, GA, and Janie Baldridge (Bill) of Morehead, KY; 6 grandchildren, Melanie Kohler, Becky Exley (Jim), Holly Lee (Chris), Rob Fisher (Kelli), Beth Baldridge-Harding, and Jenny Stamper (Jeff); and 16 great-grandchildren with No.17 due in July; nieces, nephews, and friends. Ruby was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A loyal member of Morehead First Baptist Church since she and A. J. moved to Morehead in 1961, she also served as church secretary for several years. She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star, Morehead Chapter 227. Ruby graduated from Bowling Green Business University and at age 19 served as stenographer for her dad's plumbing business in Bowling Green. She was an avid reader and a very talented and creative lady. Ruby enjoyed playing piano, singing in the church choir, crocheting, cross-stitching, quilting, and making porcelain dolls and their dresses. Her beautiful smile, as well as her kind, generous, and fun-loving personality, will long be remembered. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Don Mantooth officiating. Immediately following, Order of Eastern Star services will be conducted by Morehead Chapter 227. Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, KY, at 1 p.m. CST. Pallbearers: Rob Fisher, Jim Exley, Chris Lee, Jeff Stamper, Tyler Richardson, and Josh Kohler. Honorary pallbearers: Bill Baldridge, Larry Fisher, Wilson Fisher and Hudson Lee Visitation is Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
