Roy Wayne "Woody" Curtis, age 80, of Owingsville, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling.
He was born July 13, 1944, in Morehead, and was the son of the late William Delmore "Billy" Curtis and Effie Mae Howard Curtis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Curtis; one brother, Sammy Hanshel; and one sister, Billie Jo Caudill.
Woody is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia Lee Phipps Curtis; two sons, Timothy Curtis (Donna) of Midland and Michael Wayne "Slugger" Curtis (Whitney) of Peasticks; three daughters, Virginia "Gayle" Morris (Marvin) of Morehead, Linda Michelle Westerman (James) of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Ashlee Nance (Zac) of Owingsville; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include one brother, Danny Hanshel; a special lifelong friend, Stearl Johnson (Karen) of Morehead; several nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
Woody was a truck driver for 55 years and retired from Diamond Forest after 30 plus years. He was a former driver for Jack Winters Produce, Vincent Oil, Younger Brothers, and Bill Fannin Industries. He enjoyed cooking, attending church, fishing, NASCAR and dirt track racing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a faithful member of Sharkey Baptist Church. Woody will be remembered always and greatly missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Michael Wayne "Slugger" Curtis, Marvin Morris, James Westerman, Zac Nance, Jerry Lee Frederick, Robert Curtis, Timothy Curtis, and Elijah Sexton. Honorary pallbearers: Mikey Curtis, Jason Curtis, Matthew Curtis, Cameron Curtis, and Stearl Johnson.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
