Obituary

Roy Elsworth McConnell, age 88, of U. S. 60 West, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at his residence. Born December 26, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, he was a son of the late Clarence and Beatrice Shepard McConnell. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula McConnell; one grandson, Preston Roy Floyd; one brother, Chuck McConnell; three sisters, Lena Ruth Mumy, Judy Nichols, and Annabelle Smith; and his beloved dog, 'Ginger.' His wife, Betty Alice Wallace McConnell, also preceded him in death on January 19, 2005. Roy is survived by one son, Roy Ellsworth McConnell of Bossier City, Louisiana; three daughters, Karla Wise of Morehead, Darla (Jackie) Dean of Paintsville, and Charlie Prust of Morehead; and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, Clarence McConnell of Oak Haven, Michigan, Jack McConnell of Farwell, Michigan, Fred McConnell, Pat McConnell, and Thomas McConnell, all of Luther, Michigan; two sisters, Nancy Sibary of Arcadia, Michigan, and Allie Mae Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; several nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends. Mr. McConnell was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a former construction worker for Sibary Construction Company in Luther, Michigan, journeyman for Reed City Herald in Reed City, Michigan, and fire chief in Harrietta, Michigan. He and his wife managed Slagle Trout Club in Mesick, Michigan. He was a member of the Louisville American Legion Post No. 200 and James E. Dillon Masonic Lodge No. 466 in Mesick, Michigan; he was also a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Roy enjoyed fishing and working the daily newspaper Jumble and Crossword Puzzle. He lived a very full life and worked well into his seventies. At his request, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be conducted at the Ellsworth Township Cemetery in Luther, Michigan, at a later date. Interment: Ellsworth Township Cemetery, Luther, Michigan
