Obituary

Rosemary Grower Stokes, 89, of Morehead, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born December 5, 1924, in Norwood, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Elizabeth Hayes Grower. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Robertson. Rosemary's husband of 40 years, Robert W. Stokes, passed away December 5, 1990. She is survived by two sons, John Stokes of Louisa, and Paul R. and Paula Young Stokes of Morehead; three grandchildren, Kevin and Nikki Groeber Stokes of Lebanon, Ohio, Matthew and Micah Walters Stokes of Mt. Sterling, and Anna Stokes of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and six great grandchildren, Kylei, Haddy, Georgia, William, Joey, and Sawyer. Rosemary and Bob were wed December 27, 1949, and moved to Morehead where Bob had accepted a position as Director of Purchasing at Morehead State University. Rosemary and Bob quickly became involved in church, university, and community activities, and enjoyed couples bridge and attending sporting events with close friends and family. Rosemary received her nursing diploma from Mercy Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio, and spent many years in the medical field as a registered nurse, teacher, and volunteer. She was a nurse at the MSU Infirmary, taught nursing classes at MSU, and was a former Rowan County Home Health Nurse. For more than 30 years, she was a nurse at St. Claire Regional Medical Center and a dedicated volunteer. In addition, Rosemary had been a Cowden Mfg. employee and a Rowan County Librarian. A lifelong learner and very independent, Rosemary was an avid reader, enjoyed classical music, the Cincinnati Reds, riding the lawnmower, and helping others. She treasured her time with family and some of the happiest were traveling with John on the Diamond Baseball Tours. An active member of Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church, she was a Sunday school teacher and served on numerous boards and committees. A funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Prabell officiating. Interment will follow at Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers: Kevin Stokes, Matt Stokes, Anna Stokes, Billy Wells, Eddie Holbrook, and Roger Porter. Visitation is 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Saturday, May 24, 2014, 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., Northcutt & Son Funeral: Sunday, May 25, 2014, 3 p.m. at Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church Interment: Lee Cemetery
