Rodney R. Sparkman, age 81, of Winchester, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014, at his home. Born August 8, 1933, in Easton, Kentucky, he was a son of the late George and Maude Johnson Sparkman. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Louise Sparkman Perkins. Rodney's wife, Rita Joan Preston Sparkman, passed away May 3, 2002. He is survived by two sons, Rodney 'Ray' Sparkman, Jr. and Jan, of Lexington, Michael Dwayne Sparkman and Shannon, of Lexington; one daughter, Sherrie Lynn Sparkman and Scott Elam of Richmond; one brother, Joe Sparkman of Union Dale, Indiana; and seven grandchildren, Hillary, David, Heidi, Will, Max, Jack, and Josh. Mr. Sparkman was former co-owner of Bluegrass Manufacturing and retired from Square D. Co., both in Lexington. He was an avid fan of U.K. athletics. Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead with the Rev. Myron Hall officiating. Full military honors will be presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Pallbearers: Max Sparkman, Scott Elam, David Stephens, Justin Salter, Mitch Poole, Mark Poole.
