Dr. Robert "Bob" Hastings Doepke, Sr., age 78, of Morehead, Kentucky, a retired St. Claire Medical Center physician, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, at his residence.
Born November 5, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Clarence Rudolph Doepke and Elsie Hastings Doepke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Rudolph Doepke, Jr.; one sister, Tamara Doepke Eddings; and one grandson, Daniel Davy Doepke.
Dr. Doepke is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Sullivan Doepke, whom he married May 28, 1966; three sons, Robert Doepke, Jr. (Michelle) of Lexington, Kentucky, David Doepke (Lynelle) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Brady Doepke (Leah) of Huntsville, Alabama; one daughter, Caroline Smith (Jason) of Morehead; and six grandchildren, Emma Clare, Robbie, Reece, Henry and Sylvia Doepke and Blake Smith.
Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
In addition to his service to the community as a long-time local OB/GYN, Bob, an Eagle Scout, served in many leaderships rolls with the Boys Scouts, including Scoutmaster. He served in the Army Reserves with the 4010th US Army Hospital in New Orleans.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed cooking, traveling, spending time with family and anything related to trains. He enthusiastically shared his love of model trains during the annual Southern Lights at the Kentucky Horse Park.
While he will be missed by those who knew and loved him, we will find solace knowing he is now at peace.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Father Phillip DeVous and Reverend Eric Espada officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either St. Claire Hospice Services, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351 or the Eagle Scout Scholarship Fund, https://donations.scouting.org/
