Robert J. Chaney, age 82, of Circle Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the Boyd Nursing and Rehab Center in Ashland, Kentucky. Born November 22, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harmon D. and Edith Pearl Guyton Chaney. His wife, Daisy Mae Nicholson Chaney, preceded him in death on August 27, 2007. Mr. Chaney is survived by one son, Jay (Eve) Chaney of Sparta, New Jersey; four daughters, Terri Lynn Chaney of Chesapeake, Ohio, Nancy McKenzie of Ashland, Kentucky, Jill Ann (Tim) Tobin of Albany, New York, and Janet (Brian) Salyers of Ashland, Kentucky; and six grandchildren, Chris Shobe, Kevin Salyers, Chace McKenzie, Kerry Tobin, Kelly Chaney and Robin Chaney. Other survivors include one sister, Marjorie Whitson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and special brother- and sister-in-law, Omer and Reita Nicholson of Paoli, Indiana. Mr. Chaney was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired as terminal manager in Louisville, Kentucky, after 35 years of service with Sun Oil Company. He was a longtime USAC Indianapolis 500 official and was a member of USAC Oldtimers Club. Graveside services and interment will be 3 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Brown Cemetery with the Rev. Don Evans officiating. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals is caring for arrangements.
