Robert Gordon 'Bobby' Lyons, 84, of Lyons Road, Owingsville, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington. Born March 24, 1929, at Stepstone in Bath County, he was a son of the late Richard G. and Hildred Duff Lyons. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Clara Joyce Donahue Lyons, on June 19, 2001, and a son, Thomas G. Lyons, on February 16, 2001. Bobby is survived by one daughter, Brenda Joyce Cooper and husband Wendell of Morehead; one granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Cooper Ison and husband George of Morehead; two grandsons, Robert Clayton 'Clay' Lyons of Winchester, and Robert Thomas Lyons of Owingsville; one great grandson, David Hunter Lyons; two great granddaughters, Breanna and Savannah Ison; and a special friend, Carolyn Rogers. Bobby retired from Kentucky Utilities after more than 45 years serving as a lineman and foreman. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps as a field radio operator during the Korean War from 1951-53. He was a founding member of the present American Legion Post No. 126, a past Commander of the Legion and a member of the Executive Board and Honor Guard. He was also a member of the Bath County VFW and the 40&8 veterans organization. Bobby was a member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. He was a past Worthy Patron and Deputy Patron of Morehead Order of Eastern Star No. 227, a past president of Morehead Jaycees, and a Kentucky Colonel. Bobby was a member of Sugar Grove Christian Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Francis Nash officiating. Masonic rites will be held at 12:45 p.m. Friday immediately preceding the funeral service. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126, who will also serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sugar Grove Christian Church Building Fund, 3841 Stepstone Road, Owingsville, KY 40360 or American Legion Post #126 Building Fund, P. O. Box 58, Morehead, Visitation: Thursday, October 24, 2013, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Friday, October 25, 2013, at 1 p.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
