Rita Krakoff, 85, of Morehead, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington after a brief illness. Rita was born in the Bronx, New York, and was the only child of Sidney and Mollie Wertheim. She grew up and resided in the Bronx, attended City College, and had a successful career as a bookkeeper. When she retired in 1990, Rita moved to Tamarac, Florida, and later relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, to be closer to her son and his family. She was very active in her retirement community and loved being involved in social activities and spending time with friends and family. Always devoted to her family, she glowed with pride when hearing about her children and grandchildren's accomplishments. Last July, Rita moved to Morehead to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Although very different from big city life, Rita enjoyed the Kentucky lifestyle. The vastness of the land and watching -her' cows in the field always brought a smile. She enjoyed sitting on the front porch, visiting with neighbors and friends, and the freshly harvested fruits and vegetables from her daughter's garden. Having had experience playing high school basketball, Rita enjoyed cheering on the U.K. Wildcats during basketball season. She is survived by her daughter, Barb Lewis and husband Darrell of Morehead; son, Herb Krakoff and wife Linda of Olney, Maryland; three grandchildren, Darah Pope and husband Shaun of Cosby, Tennessee, Jennifer Krakoff and Scott Krakoff both of Olney, Maryland; one step-grandson, Chad Lewis of Morehead; and two step-great grandchildren, Cody Lewis and Adora Lewis both of Morehead. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rabbi H.D. Uriel Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery. Visitation for Rita Krakoff is from noon until 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, the Lupus Foundation of America, or Cure SMA.
