Richard Smith, age 87, of Shaker Road, Franklin, Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009, at the Atrium Medical Center in Franklin, Ohio. Born July 2, 1921, at Beauty, Kentucky, in Martin County, he was the son of the late Dillard and Katherine Sweeney Smith. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack Smith, William Smith, Sherman Smith, and George Smith; one sister, Arizona Metcalf; and his son, Gary Lee Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geneva Kathryn Gee Smith; his two daughters, Carole Jean (Dan) McCaskill of Los Angeles, California, and Marilyn (Rick) Sorrell of Middletown, Ohio; his son, Ronnie Smith of Lutz, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Doug Smith, Angela Fierman, Rachael McCaskill, and Tiffany Thorson; 6 great granddaughters; and 1 great grandson. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He enjoyed hunting with his beagles. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gary McQuain officiating. Burial will follow in the Hayes Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
