Richard Charles, age 83, of Spring Hollow Road, Salt Lick, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. Born March 23, 1927, in Menifee County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Joe Henry Charles and Bertha Forman Charles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ruppert Charles, and one sister, Ruby McKenzie. Also, one son, Michael Wayne Charles, passed away on April 4, 2002. Mr. Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Lee Johnson Charles, whom he wed April 11, 1947; one daughter, Judith Ann Peace of Franklin, Ohio; one son, Rickie Lee Charles of Springboro, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Lori Barlow, Brian Charles, Dr. Michelle Peace-Barry, Kevin Scott Peace, Joshua David Charles, who was raised by his grandparents, Jessica Elizabeth Charles, Samantha Faye Charles, and Zachary Sean Charles; and five great grandchildren, Mark Richard Barlow, Jr., Scott Michael Barlow, Matthew Charles Barlow, Caleb Charles, and Gabriel Carmack. Other survivors include one sister, Ruth -Tootsie- Combs; one brother, Roy Charles; and one half-brother, Lonnie Davis, all of Middletown, Ohio, as well as several nieces, nephews, and other dear family members. Mr. Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from Systems Research Laboratories in Beaver Creek, Ohio. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Salt Lick First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Salt Lick First Church of God with the Rev. Vernon Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Charlie Charles, Tony Charles, Kevin Peace, Brian Charles, Gary McKenzie, and Doug Barry. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky, and from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Salt Lick First Church of God. Visitation: Friday, October 15, 2010, after 6 pm funeral home; Saturday, noon-2 pm, Church Funeral: Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Church Interment: ew Alfrey Cemetery
