Regina 'Jean' Sturgill Mack, age 93, of Morehead, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014, at the Life Care Center of Morehead after a brief illness. She was born March 14, 1921, in Springfield, Illinois, a daughter of the late James and Anna Ethel Thomas Sturgill. Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by four brothers, James Phillip Sturgill, William Sturgill, Paul Sturgill and Charles Sturgill; and six sisters, Geneva Black, Helen Foster, Margaret Moore, Ruth Sturgill, Sarah Esther Allen, and an infant sister. Her husband, William J. 'Bill' Mack, whom she wed in 1942, passed away in 1991. Survivors include her sister, Frances Kidd of Morehead; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Betty Smith, Lois Spurlock, and Ray McClurg of Morehead. Jean was active in community, church, and university events. She and Bill moved to Morehead in 1957 from Pikeville College where Jean was the food manager for ten years. At Morehead State, they lived in the Student Union (now Adron Doran University Center) for 13 years; Bill served as director and for some time Jean as dining services manager. Bill retired from MSU in 1979 with 31 years of teaching in Kentucky and Jean continued their support to the University. To honor them, a room in the Eagle Center was named the Bill and Regina Mack Student-Athlete Technology and Learning Lab. Since 1963, when the hospital was built and Jean became a charter member of the St. Claire Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, she has been a faithful volunteer. In addition, she participated in the annual Bloodmobile drive and received a 50-year membership pin from the Order of the Eastern Star, Morehead Chapter No. 227. A longtime member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Jean created The William J. and Jean Mack Capital Improvement Fund, better known as the Mack Fund, in 2011. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with a funeral service at noon with the Rev. Molly Smothers officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Allen, Todd Allen, Shawn Allen, and Ray McClurg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), (with designation to Mack Fund), 227 East Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. Funeral: Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at noon Interment: Lee Cemetery
