Rebecca “Christine” Hyatt Butler, age 86, of Redwood Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 5, 2026, at UK Medical Center in Lexington.

Born January 2, 1940, in Morehead, she was a daughter of the late Troy and Mary Ella Cooper Hyatt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Loran Hyatt, Bill Hyatt, and Mitch Hyatt, and three sisters, Emma Markwell, Rosa Dailey Porter, and Renee Elizabeth Hyatt Cassidy.

Christine is survived by her husband, Andy Butler, whom she wed June 5, 1971; two daughters, Rhonda Cooper Steagall (Raymond) of Morehead, KY, and Karis Cooper Godwin (Wayne) of Douglasville, Georgia; one son, Ray Cooper (Darla) of Ft. Branch, Indiana (formerly of Morehead); 7 grandchildren, Breanna Varney, Caleb Cooper, Alexa Hanlon, Jacob Steagall, Lara Nickell, Ethan Steagall, and Seth Godwin; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Other survivors to cherish her memory include her brother, George Hyatt of Morehead, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.

Christine attended Little Brushy School and began working at a young age, helping on her family farm and later worked at a downtown restaurant in Morehead. She also lovingly cared for children for many years, providing an encouraging and nurturing presence in their lives. In the early 1990s, she became a valued member of the SealMaster Bearing Department, where she worked faithfully for 15 years before retiring.

Christine enjoyed shopping and was known for her special recipes, especially her delicious no-bake cookies and pumpkin rolls. When Tom T. Hall was a radio disc jockey in Morehead, Christine regularly gifted him homemade candy and he referred to her as “the Belle of the County.” She loved to read, keep up with current events, and stay informed about political issues and government activities in Frankfort and Washington, D.C. She especially enjoyed caring for babies and was affectionately known as a sweetheart of The KY Travelers and Kermit Richmond.

Christine lived out her faith each day, demonstrating her love for the Lord through her words, actions, and dedication to prayer. A devoted Christian and faithful prayer warrior, she truly exemplified the qualities of “The Virtuous Woman” described in Proverbs 31.

Christine also loved singing and attending church. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Christian Church and attended Oakland Christian Church, where her son-in-law, Raymond Steagall, serves as pastor.

Christine will be lovingly remembered for her caring heart, warm spirit, love of family and children, and the many simple joys she brought to those around her. Although she will be deeply missed, her memory will remain in the hearts of her family and friends for years to come. Her strong faith, loving spirit, and commitment to God will be a lasting part of the legacy she leaves behind.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Sharkey Baptist Church (2555 Sharkey Road, Morehead) with Pastor Raymond Steagall and Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jacob Steagall, Ethan Steagall, Tyler Nickell, Seth Godwin, Wayne Godwin, and Ray Cooper. Honorary Pallbearers: Jax Nickell and Hank Nickell.
