Raymond Odell Adkins, age 77, of Piedmont Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born March 7, 1936, on Elk Fork in Morgan County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Tony and Margaret Elizabeth Hutchinson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Dessie Charles, Mavery Vance, Chester and Geneva Adkins. Raymond is survived by his wife of 57 years, Garnet Sparks Adkins; four children, Bruce Adkins and wife Patty of Morehead, Kentucky, Dale Adkins and fianc-e Tara of Maysville, Kentucky, Vicki Adkins of Morehead, Kentucky and Connie Adkins Bowman and husband Donald of Morehead, Kentucky. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ashley Adkins Withrow and husband Jeremy, Ryan Adkins and wife Samantha, Matthew Adkins, Elizabeth and Nicholas Bowman, and four great grandchildren, Ayden, Austin and Makayla Adkins and Raylee Dawn Withrow and another great granddaughter (Withrow) due in September. Raymond was retired from Rowan Water, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 20 years. Prior to Rowan Water, he also worked at Ed Mabry's and Packs Inc. He was a former Fire Chief of the Morehead Volunteer Fire Department with 20 years' service to his community. During his time as Chief, he was instrumental in the construction of the DBFFA fire training tower and improving and replacing many items of equipment at the Fire Department. He was a master carpenter, a long haul truck driver, an electrician, heavy equipment operator, and firefighter-a true 'jack of all trades.' Raymond was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed large family and friend gatherings; his favorite times were when his family was gathered around him enjoying a meal and trading stories. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers: Mike Kidd, Wayne Ferguson, Cecil Cornett, Matt Adkins, Steve Ferguson, Jackie Thomas, Raymond Moore, and Jerry Patrick. Honorary Pallbearers: Past and present members of the Morehead Fire Department and all county fire departments, Rowan Water Board and employees, Carl Sizemore, Bob Fouch, and Tony Ferguson. Visitation is 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Saturday, April 20, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral: Sunday, April 21, 2013, at 2 p.m. Interment: Lee Cemetery
