Ray Sparks, age 80, of Coldiron Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012, at the Providence Pavilion in Covington, Kentucky. He was born April 13, 1932, at Fitch, Kentucky, in Rowan County, a son of the late Oscar and Pearl Frances Sloan Sparks. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Matthew Sparks in 1988, and two sisters, Wilma Lucille 'Cille' Sparks Stephens in 2005 and Sandi Carri in 2007. His wife of 37 years, Barbara Jewell Davis Sparks, passed away October 16, 2001. Ray is survived by three sons and their wives, Tony and Linda Sparks of Morehead, Kentucky, Brent and Beth Sparks of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, and Kyle and Melissa Sparks of Crestview, Kentucky; and five grandchildren, Dustin, Amanda, Delaney Claire, Libbie, and Logan Sparks. Other survivors included one brother, Gene Sparks of Melbourne, Florida; two sisters, Garnet Adkins and Sara 'Sally' Kidd, both of Morehead, Kentucky; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Ray was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a local business owner, and a retired log buyer for Clearcreek Hardwoods in Grayson, Kentucky. He was of the Christian Faith. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Davis Family Cemetery. Pallbearers: Bruce Adkins, Mark Donahue, Dustin Sparks, Dennis Davis, Eddie Davis, Danny Russell, Dale Adkins, and Dennis Adkins.
